French President Emmanuel Macron says his country has sent three fighter jets to protect NATO's Eastern Wing in Poland.

The decision comes after more than 20 Russian drones flew over Polish airspace. Earlier, Poland announced it had moved 40,000 troops to the border in response to joint exercises between Russia and Belarus.

Macron's statement:

Following Russian drone incursions into Poland, I have decided to deploy three Rafale fighter jets to contribute to the defense of Polish airspace and NATO's Eastern Flank together with our allies.

I made this commitment yesterday to the Polish Prime Minister.

I have also discussed this issue with the NATO Secretary General and the British Prime Minister, who is also committed to protecting the Eastern Front.

The security of the European continent is our top priority.

We will not succumb to Russia's growing threats.
