NATO is to confront Iran

NATO has declared that it is ready to face any threat, following reports that Iran is considering the possibility of attacks on US military targets in Europe, in case US President Donald Trump decides to escalate the conflict.

A NATO official stated that the Alliance's stance in the field of prevention and defense remains "strong and effective."

"As demonstrated earlier this year, when NATO defense systems successfully intercepted ballistic missiles launched from Iran and directed towards Turkey on four separate occasions, our stance on deterrence and defense is strong and effective ," the official said.

The statement comes after a Financial Times report that Iran has considered striking US military targets in Europe if the Trump administration escalates the war. The British newspaper said the information was based on sources close to the Iranian regime.

Reports point to US targets in Southern and Southeastern Europe, including points in Bulgaria and Cyprus. According to sources cited by the Financial Times, Tehran is also considering the possibility of striking underwater infrastructure in the Strait of Hormuz.
