Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced during a cabinet meeting that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) plans to defeat Hamas in Gaza have been approved, where "the gates of hell will soon open."

"Soon, the gates of hell will open over the heads of Hamas murderers and rapists in Gaza - until they agree to Israel's conditions to end the war, primarily the release of all hostages and their disarmament," Katz said.

"If they don't agree - Gaza, the capital of Hamas, will become Rafah and Beit Hanoun. Exactly as I promised - that's how it will be," he continued.

Katz stressed that the attacks include intense fire against the enemy, civilian evacuations and military maneuvers.

According to the latest reports, at least 30 Palestinians have been killed today, 24 of them in Gaza City alone.

Katz warned that Gaza could turn into a "Rafah and Beit Hanoun" if Hamas does not accept Israeli conditions for the release of all hostages and demilitarization.

Meanwhile, a famine has been officially confirmed in Gaza City and surrounding neighborhoods by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC).

The UN-backed and globally recognized system for classifying food insecurity and malnutrition has declared only four other cases of famine since its creation in 2004.

This announcement is the IPC's first outside of Africa.

Gaza City is home to about half a million residents.

Previous famines were confirmed in Somalia in 2011 and in Sudan in 2017, 2020 and 2024.

Deaths from malnutrition and starvation are on the rise, according to figures from the Gaza Health Ministry, verified by the World Health Organization.

The ministry also announced that in the first 20 days of August alone, there were 133 deaths attributed to malnutrition or hunger, including 25 children.

Almost 13,000 new admissions of children for acute malnutrition were recorded in July, according to the latest data from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
