German Defense Minister: Germany should prepare for a possible war in Europe
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.

German society and the armed forces must prepare for a possible war in Europe, said the German Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius.

Minister Pistorius said that the Russia-Ukraine war was a historic turning point for Germany, which should bring about a "change of mentality" in politics and society.

"We have to get used to the idea that there could be a threat of war in Europe and that means we have to get ready for war," he declared for public broadcaster ZDF.

"We must be ready to defend ourselves and prepare the German armed forces and society for this," he added.

The social democratic politician said that Germany should increase its defense spending and modernize its armed forces, according to him, to enable it to face new security challenges.
