The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will release a new report about the causes of autism.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the report will publish data linking Tylenol use by pregnant women and autism spectrum disorder.
The report will also include other possible causes of autism and ways to combat the condition.
The report will suggest that the painkiller is among the possible causes of autism, along with low levels of folate (a vitamin that promotes cell growth), according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). The document prepared by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will be released later this month.
The claims about Tylenol's possible effects on autism presented in the report are based on "a review of existing research," with ways to treat the disorder's symptoms also included in the report, the WSJ notes.
“The agency also plans to designate a form of folate known as folic acid, or leucovorin, as a way to reduce symptoms of autism, which affected approximately one in 31 eight-year-olds in the U.S. by 2022,” the WSJ reported. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will release a new report on the causes of autism later this month.

BBC News reported that pregnant women are usually advised to take Tylenol for pain relief or another form of acetaminophen.
The upcoming report comes after Kennedy controversially promised to uncover the causes of autism by September during a cabinet meeting with President Donald Trump in April.
