Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he wants the West to send long-range missiles and jets to his war-torn country to help repel Russian troops.

Zelensky thanked German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and US President Joe Biden for their decision to send heavy tanks to Ukraine. But he was adamant that Ukraine needed more weapons, including long-range missiles and aircraft.

"I spoke with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg today. We also need to open deliveries of long-range missiles to Ukraine, it's important - we need to expand our cooperation in artillery," Zelensky said.

"This is a dream. And this is a task.” He also called on Western countries to send tanks quickly and in sufficient quantities. "The more defensive support our frontline heroes receive from the world, the sooner Russia's aggression will end."

The United States announced it will provide 31 Abrams tanks to help Ukraine repel Russia's invasion, mirroring a similar move by Germany in the face of dire warnings from Moscow.
