Sending heavy tanks to Ukraine, France: Neither we nor allies are at war with
Scholz and Macron

Neither France nor its allies are fighting against Russia, the French Foreign Ministry said on January 26. Paris' stance comes after the West sent heavy tanks to Ukraine to help it fight the Russian invasion.

"We are not at war with Russia and none of our partners are," said French Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Anne-Claire Legendre. “Sending military equipment…. it does not mean that we are part of the war".

Legendre spoke after German Foreign Minister Annalena Bearbock said on January 26 that it was important for Western partners to coordinate military aid to Kiev.

"The most important part is that we do this together and we in Europe don't blame each other because we are fighting Russia and not each other," she said.

A day ago, Germany announced that it would give Ukraine 14 Leopard 2 tanks, a decision that has been expected for some time. This decision by Berlin also opens up the possibility that some other European countries will supply Kiev with these types of tanks.

After Germany's announcement, the United States also announced that it will give Ukraine 31 Abrams tanks. The Kremlin said that Moscow sees the delivery of these tanks as "direct involvement in the conflict" in Ukraine, which Russia started on February 24, 2022./REL
