The Sahara Desert in southwestern Algeria has been blanketed in white as a blanket of snow blanketed the area for the first time in years.

After a two-month drought in the Bashar region of Algeria, near the border with Morocco, the cold temperatures that hit this part of Africa completely unexpectedly brought snow, foreign media write.

An unprecedented sight for many Algerians, as the last time it snowed there was 11 years ago.

The famous "Desert Gate", due to its location on the edge of the Sahara, sheltered in the Atlas Mountains, surrounded by high hills and dunes, was completely covered by snow. According to the Algerian Meteorological Service, snow is also expected in other desert areas of the country.
