Archbishop Joan wishes all Orthodox believers a happy Easter: May we find peace in our hearts!

Archbishop Joan has congratulated all Orthodox believers on Easter.

In a message, the archbishop expressed that today the world is troubled by bloody wars, but we must find peace in our hearts and spread it everywhere.

Archbishop Joan added that we must become peacemakers in a world that is being destroyed by hatred and greed.

"THE PEACE OF THE RISEN CHRIST IN A TURBED WORLD"

Let us dwell on the first words spoken by the Risen Christ when he appeared to his disciples. He did not say to them “victory,” nor “glory,” nor “power,” but said to them: “Peace be with you” (Jn. 20:19). He entered the room where they were locked up in fear and gave them what the world can never give: peace that does not depend on conditions, on geopolitical balances, on human agreements, but the peace of God that surpasses all understanding (Phil. 4:7), a deep spiritual peace that comes first from man’s reconciliation with God and then extends to all people.

Today the world is in turmoil. Bloody wars continue to cause death and suffering. The fear of tomorrow covers entire peoples. Insecurity knocks everywhere. In the midst of this storm, the Risen Christ repeats: “Peace be with you.” This is not simply a wish of social courtesy, but an ontological reality. Death has been defeated. And if death has been defeated, then what can disturb us anymore? The peace of Christ is not the absence of problems; it is the presence of God within problems. On the Cross of Golgotha, Christ faced all the passions of humanity. Greed for money betrayed him through Judas. Envy handed him over to Pilate. The fearful and corrupt power condemned him. Pride mocked him. Hatred nailed him to the Cross. All the passions exploded upon him with fury, as if the world wanted to kill God himself.

And yet, on the Cross, precisely where evil thought it had triumphed, Christ did not seek revenge. He cried out: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34). With these words, he did not simply defeat death. He defeated the vicious circle of evil. He defeated the logic of revenge that fuels every war, every hatred, every dark conflict in history. The Resurrection proves that love is stronger than death; that forgiveness destroys evil, while revenge multiplies it. The Risen Christ did not come to punish his crucifiers. He came to save and reconcile them. And this is the greatest victory in history.

Në kohën që po jetojmë po përballemi me një formë të re vdekjeje: mpirjen e indiferencës; ngurtësimin e zemrës; tharjen shpirtërore të një shoqërie që e harroi Perëndinë, jo sepse iu ndalua, por sepse zgjodhi ta injorojë Atë. Përplasja e bindjeve të padukshme vazhdon të shkatërrojë jetë të dukshme. “Çfarë i vlen njeriut të fitojë gjithë botën – na thotë Krishti – nëse humb shpirtin e tij?” (Mt. 16:26). Këto fjalë janë më aktuale se kurrë. Jetojmë në një epokë ku njeriu ndjek pa pushim të mirat materiale, sigurinë, statusin shoqëror, dhe megjithatë ndihet më i zbrazur, më i vetmuar, i paplotësuar, më i shqetësuar se kurrë.

Ndërsa Ngjallja na zbulon një të vërtetë të madhe: kush ka Krishtin në zemrën e tij, nuk i mungon asgjë. Dhe jo vetëm shpirtërisht. Zoti që u kujdes të ushqejë pesë mijë vetë me pesë bukë, Zoti që e shndërroi ujin në verë, Zoti që tha “kërkoni më parë Mbretërinë e Perëndisë dhe të gjitha këto do t’ju shtohen” (Mt. 6:33), ky Zot nuk i lë fëmijët e Tij pa gjërat e nevojshme. Ai kujdeset edhe për trupin, edhe për shpirtin; jep edhe bukë, edhe paqe. Plotësia nuk gjendet në grumbullimin e pasurive, por në lidhjen me Krijuesin. Vetëm tek ai ne mund të gjejmë paqe, sepse vetëm ai është paqja jonë (Efes. 2:14).

Ne e dimë çfarë do të thotë Ngjallje. Jo vetëm teorikisht, por nga përvoja e jetuar. Kisha jonë Orthodhokse kaloi Golgothanë e saj. Për dekada me radhë u përpoqën të asgjësonin çdo gjurmë besimi. Kishat u shkatërruan, klerikë u martirizuan, fjala “Perëndi” u ndalua. Kisha dukej e vdekur, e varrosur në një varr të vulosur. E megjithatë, ajo u ngjall. Guri u rrokullis. Besimi lulëzoi përsëri nga rrënojat. Kishat u rindërtuan. Komunitetet u rikrijuan. Kjo nuk ishte arritje njerëzore, ishte fuqia e Krishtit të Ngjallur që vepron brenda historisë.

Kisha bën thirrje përsëri për Ngjallje – këtë herë për Ngjalljen e çdo shpirti. Krishti i Ngjallur qëndron sot përpara nesh, siç qëndroi përpara Thomait, dhe na tregon plagët e Tij. Nuk i fsheh. Nuk i heq. I mban përgjithmonë mbi vete, si dëshmi e përjetshme dashurie. Këto plagë thonë: “Kaq shumë të desha, saqë pranova dhimbjen më të rëndë për ty”. Çdo person, çdo shpirt, është aq unik, aq i papërsëritshëm, saqë Perëndia do të vinte edhe sikur të ishte vetëm për një njeri.

Të dashur vëllezër dhe motra! Në këtë botë të trazuar na mjafton vetëm një siguri: Krishti u ngjall dhe jeton. Dhe nëse jeton Krishti, jetojmë edhe ne. Dhe nëse jetojmë në Krishtin, atëherë as vdekja, as ligësia, as varfëria, as përndjekja nuk mund të na ndajë nga dashuria dhe nga paqja e Tij. Dita e Ngjalljes së Zotit tonë Jisu Krisht – shkruan shën Joan Gojarti – është themeli i paqes. Sepse nga Ngjallja e Krishtit vjen Paqja e Perëndisë. Ngjallja dhe Paqja e Perëndisë nuk është një dogmë abstrakte, por një thirrje personale.

Let us, then, respond to the call: “Peace be with you” with our whole lives. Let us ourselves become peacemakers in a world that is being destroyed by hatred, greed and selfishness. But to become peacemakers, we must first have peace within ourselves. Make peace in your heart – says St. Seraphim of Sarov – and thousands of people around you will be saved. For there is no peace where evil is, but only where God is present. Let us find this peace of God in our hearts and then spread it everywhere, together with the joyful news that Christ is Risen and has given the world life and eternal peace.
