The public intervention of the daughter of the president of Colombia, Andrea Petro , in her country's conflict with Washington over the issue of deportations caused a stir .
In her post on X, Andrea Petro warned that Colombia will return to the US any American who comes to her country in search of sex, for every Colombian deported from American soil.
"For every Colombian deported, we will bring back a gringo from Pomblado," the 32-year-old wrote in her post with a dolphin jumping out of the sea.
"My father is the man of my life"
The intervention of 32-year-old Andrea, however, should not be considered a surprise, as in an interview in January 2024 she had said of her father, Gustavo Petros, that "he is the man of my life."
She herself is extremely active on social media with thousands of followers, having taken care to find an independent path early on in relation to her father by name, moving to France since 2012.
As Andrea said, her decision to leave for Europe had not only to do with academic prospects on the Old Continent, but also with the need to escape the bullying she received as the child of a politician in Colombia. At school, Andrea recalls, some of her classmates called her a “communist.”
However, the journey to France was not smooth, as Andrea Petro entered the country illegally. She quickly obtained legal documents and worked as a waitress at McDonald's.
However, because she appeared as a worker rather than a student, she ran into a new problem as she was ordered to leave France within 30 days.
This experience led him to found the Colombian Organization for Migrants (OCM) with the aim of helping Colombians living abroad.
During this time, Andrea Petro had two daughters and divorced.
Speaking about her character, she has described herself as "revolutionary" and "not diplomatic." "I resemble my father and I say things as I see them," said the 32-year-old, who said of her father, "he is the man of my life, but he is also a politician. When he speaks, I believe him, but because we are similar characters, we often fight. I am more grounded and he is more utopian."
Adventure with her brother
Last November, the Petros family was upset by the involvement of Andreas' brother, Nicolas Burgos, in a trial for money laundering and illicit enrichment.
Her reaction was strong: She accused him of betraying their father, saying "if he is innocent, let him prove it and we will support him. If he is not innocent, then that is how things are."
She has made it clear that "we have no connection between us. I don't speak to him," confessing that this adventure "hurt me because we know our father's political path, everything he has gone through and everything he has endured for our family.
Fight breaks out in French restaurant over Escobar painting
In October 2023, Petro had another episode, when with her post on social media, she requested that a painting of the notorious drug dealer, Pablo Escobar, be removed from a restaurant in France.
In the first painting at Le Populo restaurant in Marseille by the 32-year-old, Escobar was seen smiling and waving.
"Out of respect for the Colombian community, we request the removal of this painting, which for us is offensive and derogatory," Andrea Petro wrote.
Her reaction came a few months after her father's speech at a conference in Paris, where he criticized all those who identify Colombia with Escobar: "Colombia is not only famous for Pablo Escobar.
"Escobar is not the son of all Colombians, he is the son of the Colombian oligarchy that gave birth to him and helped him operate."
