Turkey categorically opposes any military intervention and any war scenario in the region and is ready to play the role of mediator between Iran and the United States to reduce tensions, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in an interview with the Saudi newspaper Asharq al-Awsat, during his visit to Riyadh.

Erdogan stressed that Ankara is against any new war or new wave of destruction in the region.

"As Turkey, we categorically oppose a new war or a new wave of destruction in our region," he said, adding that Turkey has consistently expressed its opposition to any military intervention against Iran in every international forum.

The Turkish president called on the parties to show restraint and avoid any actions that could increase tensions.

He stressed that Turkey is closely following developments in Iran, attaches importance to the country's peace and stability, and does not support any external intervention that could cause suffering to the Iranian people.

Erdogan also underlined that Turkey is ready to take on a mediating role between Iran and the US, with the aim of reducing tensions and contributing to resolving problems through diplomatic means. According to him, Ankara's diplomatic efforts in this direction are continuing.

He also noted the consultations and coordination that Turkey is developing with the countries of the region, emphasizing that the region does not need new divisions, but cooperation based on shared wisdom and shared responsibility.

"Our goal is not to manage conflicts, but to strengthen the diplomatic foundations that prevent them from occurring in the first place. For this reason, it would be useful to create regional security mechanisms," Erdogan concluded.
