Bill Gates in the Epstein files, ex-wife: It reminded me of painful periods of our marriage

Melinda French Gates has publicly reacted to the inclusion of the name of her ex-husband, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, in new documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, stating that this development has brought back painful memories from their marriage.

"I'm so happy to be away from all this filth," are her words.

Melinda French Gates and Bill Gates divorced in 2021, after 27 years of marriage.

In an interview with NPR's Wild Card podcast, the billionaire philanthropist said she feels "deep sadness" about the allegations related to Epstein and stressed that the people named in the documents must answer for them.

"It's hard for me every time these details come to light because they bring back memories of some very painful times in my marriage," she said, according to the BBC. She added: " Whatever questions remain, about things that I can't even fully understand, those questions belong to those people and also to my ex-husband. They need to answer for these things, not me."

Documents released by the US Department of Justice include a claim by Epstein that Bill Gates had contracted a sexually transmitted disease, a claim that Gates has categorically denied.

A spokesman for Bill Gates called the allegations " absolutely absurd and completely untrue," stressing that they come from "a proven and disgruntled liar."

Bill Gates has not been accused of any wrongdoing by Epstein's victims, and the mention of his name in the documents does not imply involvement in any criminal activity.

US media reports that Melinda French Gates had expressed concern about her ex-husband's relationship with Epstein even before their separation. After announcing their divorce, Bill Gates admitted to having an extramarital affair with a Microsoft employee in 2019.

The allegations against Bill Gates are part of more than three million documents released last week by the U.S. Department of Justice. Two emails dated July 18, 2013, allegedly written by Epstein, contain various allegations, although it is not clear whether they were ever sent to Gates. After the latest release, Bill Gates' representatives stated that the documents only show Epstein's efforts to damage his reputation.
