Caucasian mafia boss executed in broad daylight in Israel

Yannis Yushbayev, the head of the Caucasian mafia in Israel, was shot dead Sunday afternoon at a gas station near Caesarea. The victim, who was in his 40s, did not survive his injuries.

The killing took place in broad daylight at the Paz gas station, near the Minato Sushi Bar restaurant and the Agenda cafe. Security camera footage shows a man approaching Yushbayev as he was leaving the restaurant and then shooting him in the head from close range.

The shooter and his suspected accomplices fled in a car. Police, who suspect a personal grudge, immediately launched a large-scale search operation. Roadblocks were set up throughout the region, and a helicopter also participated in the search.

The head of the Israeli police, Danny Levy, and the commander of the coastal district went to the scene.

Yushbayev had been under the attention of the Hadera police and the central unit of the coastal district for several years. He had been arrested several times, Israj writes.

Last year, his name was particularly linked to the shootings at a businessman's car and apartment. Police suspected that he had acted as a mediator in a conflict between businessmen, but also that he had participated in the burning of dozens of vehicles. Earlier this year, he was arrested again at Ben-Gurion Airport, after returning from Russia.
