EU reacts strongly to Israeli plan for E1 settlement

The European Union has reacted strongly to the decision of the Israeli authorities to advance with the E1 settlement project, describing it as a step that undermines the two-state solution and constitutes a violation of international law.

"The decision of the Israeli authorities to proceed with the plan to build the E1 settlement further compromises the two-state solution and constitutes a violation of international law. The EU calls on Israel to reverse this decision, stressing the profound consequences it entails and the need to consider measures aimed at preserving the possibility of a two-state solution ," a statement said.

This project, located in a strategic area between East Jerusalem and the West Bank, has long been the subject of criticism from the international community, due to the impact it could have on territorial division and the prospect for long-term peace.

The E1 settlement is seen as a serious obstacle to the creation of a stable and geographically connected Palestinian state.

The EU has warned that it will consider further measures to protect the implementation of the two-state solution, a key principle in its foreign policy for the Middle East.
