Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk says he does not support the idea of holding future peace talks on Ukraine in Hungary.

According to foreign media, which cite the White House, Donald Trump suggested Budapest as a location for a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky.

But Tusk suggests that holding the talks in the Hungarian capital - where the 1994 Budapest Memorandum was signed - would represent a historical irony.

Ukraine gave up its nuclear arsenal in exchange for security guarantees as part of the memorandum, an agreement that was later violated by Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 and occupation of it in 2022.

"Maybe I'm superstitious, but this time I would try to find a different place," Tusk said.

Hungary is also not a preferred location for Ukraine either.

Sky News reports that Geneva, Switzerland, is considered the best option, with Rome and the Vatican disliked by Russia, while Budapest is not favored by Kiev.

Vienna and Doha are among other locations reportedly being considered, while Vladimir Putin has suggested meeting Volodymyr Zelensky in Moscow, according to other reports.
