Doctors at a hospital in the Moscow region have saved the life of Stanislav Syrsky, the 86-year-old father of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky, who was hospitalized with a brain disorder aggravated by the consequences of a coronavirus infection. The news was reported by the Russian Telegram channel “Shot”, which stated that the Ukrainian commander-in-chief personally covered his parents’ medical expenses, totaling about 2.5 million rubles (about 26,000 euros).
According to information published by “Shot”, Stanislav Syrsky was initially in the city of Vladimir, where his family lived. However, due to the deterioration of his condition and the inability of local doctors to provide proper care, the boy arranged for his parents to be transferred to a specialized hospital in the Moscow region. There, the general’s father was admitted to a special ward, along with his wife, who accompanied him. His condition has stabilized and, after a period of daily rehabilitation, he is expected to be discharged from the hospital by the end of August.
The news, rebroadcast by Russian media, also drew attention to an apparent political and symbolic paradox: The head of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, a key figure in the ongoing conflict with Russia, financed his father’s treatment in a Russian hospital. The money was reportedly sent last July, when Syrsky resumed contact with his family after a long break. The incident also had repercussions in the life of the Ukrainian commander’s brother, Oleg Syrsky, who lives in Russia and has publicly stated that he was fired from his job as a security guard at a factory that produced spare parts for the automotive industry. “Since the transfer of my brother’s money became known,” he said, “our family has been insulted; we are considered traitors.” "My father is seriously ill, my mother is losing her hearing. I myself have lost my job and can't even pay the rent. If necessary, I am ready to publicly disown my brother just to avoid being labeled an enemy."
Oleg Syrsky also claimed that he had to try hard to raise funds for his father's medical expenses before receiving financial support from his older brother.
Dissatisfaction with the Ukrainian commander in Russia, especially in pro-government media, has also grown. Alexander Syrsky is considered one of the most uncompromising military figures towards Russia and currently leads the operations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the three-year-old war.
The case has sparked controversy on Russian social media and generated public reactions. However, according to Shot, Syrsky has limited himself to providing financial support to his elderly parents, while making no public statements regarding the matter.
Meanwhile, the health of Stanislav Syrsky, the 86-year-old father of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, is said to be improving. He currently uses a wheelchair and, according to doctors, has shown good progress thanks to rehabilitation therapy. At the end of his hospital stay, he and his wife are expected to return to their home in the city of Vladimir, on Russian soil.
