The European Union has transferred two tranches of financial aid to Ukraine, totaling 4.05 billion euros, a few days before the country's 34th anniversary of Independence, the European Commission announced in an official statement.
According to the Commission, the support includes 3.05 billion euros through the Macro-Financial Emergency Assistance (MFA) scheme, while another one billion euros comes from the reinvestment of revenues generated from frozen Russian assets. The move is seen as a clear signal of the EU's sustained support for Kyiv as the war with Russia enters its fourth year.
"Ahead of the 34th anniversary of Ukraine's independence on August 24, the EU gives another strong signal of unwavering support," the statement said.
The Commissioner for Economy and Productivity, Valdis Dombrovskis, confirmed through a post on platform X that funds from immobilized Russian assets are already being used to help Ukraine.
According to official data published by the European Commission, since the start of Russian aggression in February 2022, the EU and member states have provided a total of 168.9 billion euros in aid to Ukraine, including military, humanitarian and financial support.
