Arrest of 11 Serbs for attempted destabilization in Europe, Germany: Growing

Germany's Interior Ministry warned on Wednesday of an increased risk of "sabotage activities" in the country.

This was stated by a spokesman for the German Ministry to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Balkan Service, a few days after the arrest of 11 suspects in Serbia for causing incidents in Germany and France.

Those arrested in Serbia are accused of inciting the group to commit criminal offenses, racial and other discrimination, as well as espionage.

They were arrested in Smederevo on September 29 and are suspected of throwing green paint at the Holocaust Museum, several synagogues and a Jewish restaurant in central Paris, as well as placing pigs' heads near Muslim religious sites in that city.

They also wrote discriminatory messages near the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.

"The federal security services are also investigating cases in which individuals are suspected of being recruited by foreign state services to commit such acts," he told Radio Free Europe.

The spokesperson added that these individuals, also known as "low-profile agents" or "consumer agents," are often recruited through social media and messaging services.

The response also states that the police and intelligence services have launched a media campaign aimed at warning about recruitment efforts by hostile intelligence services.

Following the arrests in Smederevo, Serbian police announced that they were searching for a suspect who, “on instructions from a foreign intelligence service,” organized and trained a group of Serbian citizens on the territory of Serbia to cause incidents in Germany and France.

French officials are investigating Russia's role in these incidents, describing them as destabilizing operations that fuel social tensions and widen divisions in France.

However, Russia is not mentioned in the statements of the Serbian police and prosecutor's office, and the authorities did not respond to Radio Free Europe's questions about which foreign intelligence service initiated the training of Serbian citizens. /REL/
