Trump assassination alert, CIA suspected Israeli information

US intelligence officials have expressed doubts about a warning relayed by Israel about an Iranian threat to assassinate US President Donald Trump during his visit to Turkey, the Washington Post reports.

According to the report, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) analysts did not consider the information convincing, while a US official said it was rated "low credibility."

However, the warning brought extraordinary security measures for the president of the United States.

After receiving information about the threat, Trump was secretly transported by an airport food truck to an alternative military plane, on which he left Ankara for Britain.

According to the report, some US intelligence sources believed that Israel may have also conveyed the warning in an attempt to influence Trump's policy in the region.

One official said the case fit a broader pattern of Israeli intelligence reporting, which some American officials suspect was also intended to influence the president's decision-making.

According to a US official, Israel is concerned about the rapprochement between Washington and Ankara, as well as the relationship between Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
