Will Maduro's capture affect relations with China and Russia? Trump: We
Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump responded to journalists' questions this Saturday, during a press conference, about the operation in Venezuela and the possibility of the US becoming involved in the country after the capture of Nicolás Maduro.

Trump stressed that administering Venezuela would cost the United States nothing, arguing that the country's resources, especially oil, are enormous.

"Well, you know, this won't cost us anything, because the money coming out of the ground is so great," Trump said.

He added that with him at the helm, the history of American interventions in overthrowing dictators has been "perfect and victorious."

Regarding the country's wealth, Trump declared: "We're going to pump out a lot of money so we can take care of Venezuela," adding that the US is ready to sell oil and help the country recover.

Donald Trump has already promised that the US will lead Venezuela until a safe transition can be achieved. He says this will include the entry of American oil companies into the country.

"We're going to get our very large American oil companies, the largest anywhere in the world, to spend billions of dollars, fix the badly damaged infrastructure, the oil infrastructure, and start bringing in revenue for the country," Trump said.

After questions about the impact of this operation on relations with countries such as China, Russia and Iran, Trump responded that the US is primarily focused on the oil business and that it will continue to sell energy according to its interests.

"As far as countries wanting oil, we're in the oil business. We'll sell it to them. We'll sell oil," Trump continued.

He also repeats his claims that Venezuela "stole" American oil, saying that it was American businesses that built the country's oil industry.

He then expands on what he calls the ideological basis of this operation: “All of these actions were in deep violation of the fundamental principles of American foreign policy that date back more than two centuries… since the Monroe Doctrine.”

According to Trump, with this operation, the US is reaffirming American power in the world.
