"Every day 130 people leave! Why do they run away from this paradise of work and employment?! Albanians know that there is no work in Greece, there is no work in Italy either, even many of those who flee return here to join the unemployment line.

These words are no less and no more, but Edi Rama's own. What changes is time and position. The time is almost ten years ago on the eve of the campaign for the 2013 parliamentary elections. The position? Leader of the opposition.

"Who says that the flight of people from Albania today is related to the government does not understand a thing! Either he doesn't understand anything, or he's mean."

These are the words of Edi Rama in 2019. The position? Prime Minister.

All this is the metamorphosis of the head of the government, who to this day teaches the attitude that emigration is not related to his governance, but to the desire of the Albanians to leave.

"Albanians have always emigrated and will emigrate..." he declared recently from Kamza, where he gathered young people in an activity, as if to show that young people are not emigrating. This is the facade. The facts are different and stubborn.


England says that only in 2022, 12,000 young Albanians crossed the English Channel in dinghies, while the UN has given the alarm that by 2100, Albania will shrink to 1.1 million inhabitants. According to the emigration figures published by INSTAT, in 2021, about 42 thousand Albanians emigrated, or 115 people every day.

Going back to Rama's speech as opposition leader, every day 115 Albanians flee from the 'paradise of work and employment' that he has created after almost a decade in power.
