The story of resignations in the Municipality of Durres seems to have a backstory. In fact, two of the names that left, perhaps temporarily, to be appointed elsewhere, have a past, perhaps even a common one, that leads to one name: Vangjush Dako.

Following Prime Minister Edi Rama's ultimatum, several directors resigned from the Municipality of Durrës, including Ms. Valbona Qiriako, Director of Budget. Mr. Ardjan Iljazaj, Director of Services, also resigned.

But, who are these two names?!

First, Mrs. Valbona Qiriako is the sister of the former mayor of Durres, Vangjush Dako. It is learned that after Dako left the post of mayor of Durres, former mayor Valbona Sako had a conflict with Mrs. Valbona Qiriako.

According to VoxNews sources in the Municipality of Durrës, Ms. Valbona Qiriako was appointed to the Municipality of Durrës on February 21, 1994. A long history in this municipality, where for several years she was also subordinate to her brother, a man of great influence in Durrës.

Even after Dako's departure from the Municipality of Durrës (2006-2015), his family had strong roots, as his sister, who was fired just today after 31 years of work in that municipality, controlled every penny spent in the coastal city.

Years ago, Gjushi lobbied hard to remove the mayor Valbona Sako from office and placed a strong "bet" on Emiriana Sako, who is one of his own. He hired her in 2009, initially as a specialist and later as director of Services.

The current Mayor Emiriana Sako was appointed to the Municipality of Durrës on May 11, 2009, in the position of specialist in the Directorate of Planning and Control of Territorial Development.

For several years, since his release from prison, the position of Director of Services in the Municipality of Durrës has been held by Mr. Ardjan Iljazaj, former director of the Durrës Cadastre. In January 2019, Prime Minister Edi Rama dismissed him “live” from the position of director of the Cadastre, after a denunciation on the show “Fiks Fare” on Top Channel. “The Director of the Durrës Mortgage, a scoundrel. We are dealing with our troubles with unworthy people. A director who deserves only one definition, a scoundrel. For whom the measure of dismissal has been taken,” said Rama.

Rama's reaction was prompted by a hidden camera, where a citizen, after going to the Durrës Cadastre to solve a problem, confronted the director Arjan Iljazaj. The latter told him to "go solve the problem Rama."

Iljazaj was investigated and arrested by order of the Durrës Prosecutor's Office, which accused him of overlapping properties on the coast, in the Ishëm Municipality. After spending several months in prison, he was investigated with a security measure of "compulsory appearance" and later his case was dismissed. He was then appointed director of the Municipality of Durrës, a position he held until July 10, 2025, when he resigned, as requested by Edi Rama.
