The government has ratified the loan agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, for the rehabilitation of the Vorë-Hani i Hoti railway line. The agreement was signed in February of this year, while after approval by the Council of Ministers it will have to go to the Parliament to enter into force.
According to the data made public earlier, the EBRD loan amounts to 98.75 million euros, while the total cost for the rehabilitation of the Vorë - Hani i Hoti railway is estimated at 373.15 million euros.
The financing structure for this project is divided between loans granted by the EBRD and the European Investment Bank, a grant from the European Union and VAT coverage from the state budget. The EU grant amounts to 137.9 million euros, while the EIB loan amounts to 120 million.
Already, the loan agreement has been signed with the latter, as similar to the loan granted by the EBRD, it must go to the government and then to the Parliament to pave the way for disbursement.
This railway line crosses the western lowlands with stations in Vorë - Mamurras - Laç - Milot - Lezhë - Shkodër - Koplik - Hani i Hoti, where the connection with Montenegro is also made. The Transport Community has estimated that its rehabilitation will bring a number of benefits in terms of passenger and goods transport, but also the environment.
Even the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as one of the project's creditors, emphasizes the environmental and social benefits that its implementation will bring. The length of this railway line is 120 kilometers.
