In our country, the increase in oil prices due to the war in the Middle East has become the topic of the day. Since the start of the war on February 28, the price of oil has increased by 40 to 50 lek.

But it seems that Albanians are not asking about the crisis. According to figures published by the General Directorate of Customs, 56,903 tons of fuel were imported in March 20. It is reported that this is the largest amount of fuel imports ever recorded in March.

Even though the price of oil is 215 lek per liter, up from 176 before the war, marking an increase of almost 40 lek, during March consumption increased by almost 2 thousand tons more than the same month last year.

Fuel imports in March (in tons)

Year 2025 54,883

Year 2026 56,903

As for the three-month period January-March, a total of 162 thousand tons were imported, out of 165 thousand tons in the same period in 2025.

We remind you that today, the Transparency Board announced the new prices of hydrocarbons. Even though the value of hydrocarbons in international markets is decreasing significantly, the Board decided to increase the price of diesel by 6 lek and gasoline by 3 lek.
