"Boom" of requests to work in the EU, EUROSTAT: 75 thousand residence

In order to ensure a better life with a more satisfactory income than what our country offers, according to data from "EUROSTAT", during the last four years, almost 75 thousand residence permits have been issued by Albanian citizens to the countries of the European Union. As always, employment has been the main driving force behind the demand to immigrate to EU countries, accounting for 33.8% of the permits issued during this four-year period. This trend reflects the constant desire of Albanians to improve living conditions and professional opportunities outside the borders of their country.

Of the 176 countries reviewed by the European Union Statistics Agency, Albania ranks 16th for the high number of requests for residence permits in EU member states. This fact clearly shows an ever-increasing desire to leave the country in search of better opportunities in more developed countries. This phenomenon illustrates a clear trend of high mobility and the need to create better opportunities within the country to curb emigration.

On the other hand, the Census data for the year 2023 showed that the population of the country in the time act of 12 years was reduced by 420 thousand inhabitants and that the average age was increased from 35 years in 2011 to 42 in 2023, realizing that they are precisely young people who seek permission to work in EU countries.

From the EUROSTAT data, it can be seen that in the first 10 countries that requested residence permits, Russia and Ukraine were also included. The latter was in the first place with 307,000 requests for a residence permit, driven by the war with the Russian state.
