Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis has reacted for the second time in a few hours, this Thursday, to the unfortunate case of the 19-year-old Albanian woman identified as "Myrto", who was drugged by several young men and left outside a restaurant until she passed away.
He has released a statement from the Kefalonia hospital, where the girl was taken unconscious and died after being abandoned unconscious by three young men who have now been arrested, in a square in Argostoli.
In its statement, the hospital responds to reports that doctors were delayed in arriving at the Emergency Department (ED) on the morning of April 14, 2026, emphasizing that the white coats acted promptly and in an exemplary manner.
The hospital administration emphasizes that the staff fully fulfilled their duty, as they do in every case, dismissing the complaints as malicious. Kefalonia Hospital's announcement, also distributed by Minister Adonis Georgiadis:
"Regarding the false and defamatory reports about the arrival of doctors at the Emergency Department on the morning of 14/04/2026, I would like to inform you that the doctors and nursing staff of the Hospital perform their duties fully, in an exemplary manner, as they do in every case, and any malicious report is condemned by the administration and the entire staff of the Hospital, who by all means protect the health of our fellow citizens."
In another reaction earlier this Thursday, Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, referring to complaints about a lack of doctors in emergency rooms, noted, among other things, that "the on-call doctor was the first to contact and in less than a minute and a half the on-call cardiologist was in the emergency room and in less than 7 minutes the on-call anesthesiologist was there."
"Unfortunately, Myrto arrived at the hospital with her last breath and it was not possible to save her," added Adonis Georgiadis.
According to the coroner's report, Myrto died of a heart attack and it is now known from the testimonies of the arrested that she had used cocaine previously, which is expected to be officially confirmed by toxicology tests, which will be included in the case file against them.
Blood stains on the wall and towels are the first evidence collected by authorities from the rented hotel room in Kefalonia, where 19-year-old Myrto was staying before being abandoned in a square in Argostoli and losing her life.
Three people (22, 23 and 26 years old) have been arrested in connection with the case, who have been confirmed to have been with Myrto in the hours before and left him unconscious in the square after using cocaine.
