On April 13, a serious incident occurred in neighborhood no. 18 of Durrës, where 59-year-old Sajmir Markjas lost his life.
Initially, it was reported that the victim died of natural causes, but after investigations conducted by the Prosecutor's Office, it was discovered that it was a criminal event.
According to police, 42-year-old Gentian Kraja had a conflict with the 59-year-old for weak motives and then punched him.
Top Channel journalist Dorjana Bezat, tonight on Top Story, provided more details about how the dynamics of the criminal incident occurred, stating that it was the family that, with its insistence, discovered more about the murder of the 59-year-old.
"Initially, the incident was treated as a natural death from cardiac arrest. The insistence of the family members, their suspicions regarding the injuries, led the Prosecution to ask the Durrës police for additional actions, which led from natural death to accidental murder, due to negligence and was referred to the Prosecution. The investigation has not been closed because there is also indirect evidence that could lead to a more serious offense such as premeditated murder by the author because he did not express remorse after the incident. 42-year-old Gentian Kraja is in custody.
There are no criminal charges against the other persons. The family members themselves have conducted a personal investigation. On the police side, none of the witnesses have referred to the physical conflict that the victim had with the perpetrator. There are no criminal charges against the eyewitnesses. The police claim that we are not in a case of a cover-up of this event. We cannot yet say whether this punch was the cause of the deceased's death. This is what is officially claimed until all forensic tests are completed," said Bezat.
