Guardia di Finanza Ward of Monfalcon

During an operation to control the territory and prevent illegal trafficking, the Guardia di Finanza Department of Monfalcone , in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Police Unit of Trieste, stopped a van with Albanian license plates at the Slovenian border crossing of Sant'Andrea.

There were five passengers and two drivers in the vehicle, all Albanian citizens. The drivers displayed suspicious behavior, nervousness, impatience and tense exchange of glances, which attracted the attention of the officers, especially during the luggage check.

A heavy suitcase was carefully inspected, and three Kalashnikov AK-47 automatic weapons were found hidden inside. Further inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of two more automatic weapons and five magazines with a total of 356 rounds.

All the drivers' weapons and cell phones were seized. The two drivers were arrested in flagrante delicto for violating the weapons law ( Article 1 of Law 895/1967 ).

Further investigations, in cooperation with Albanian authorities, led to the identification and arrest at the Hot border crossing of the person responsible for sending the weapons.
