SPAK starts investigations/ 14 cases of vote-buying for the May 14 elections.

14 cases of electoral corruption have been registered in the Special Prosecutor's Office during the electoral campaign for the May 14 elections and are being investigated with suspicions of vote-buying. Most of the referred cases are in Tirana.

The referrals are in the phase of preliminary investigations, as so far only 1 person has been arrested for electoral corruption and 1 other person is being investigated at large.

However, the cases are much lower than those of the April 25, 2021 elections.

The official data of SPAK in 2021 showed that during that electoral campaign over 140 reports were registered for various electoral crimes.

But from the total number of reported cases, 7 people ended up as defendants in front of the Special Court during the years 2021-2022 and by the end of 2022, 5 of them were convicted.

The cases that ended with convictions were those denounced by video from television shows, social media or caught by the political subjects themselves.

According to TV Klan, in all the Prosecutor's Offices in Albania, there is only one investigation in Elbasan for election crimes.

On Wednesday, in a press release, US Ambassador Yuri Kim asked the authorities to investigate vote-buying.
