The Catholic Church of Greece is facing a major scandal, as the authorities have launched an investigation into two senior priests, accused of embezzling 3 million euros from the Church's coffers and investing them in nightclubs.

According to Greek media, these funds disappeared from the accounts of the Catholic Church and were used to finance dubious businesses.

The President of the Anti-Money Laundering Authority has ordered the freezing of the bank accounts and assets of five nightclub owners, after presenting his findings to the competent prosecution body.

Investigations have shown that this situation began eight years ago, when large sums of money were noticed moving from certain accounts by the two priests, which ended up in the accounts of the owners of some nightclubs, appearing as investments.

The alarm was raised by the bank, which identified these suspicious movements, leading to the actions of law enforcement authorities.

The Anti-Money Laundering Authority has confirmed that these funds were appropriated from the funds of the Catholic Church, leading the investigation to two priests and several businessmen involved in this scandal.

This situation has aroused concern in public opinion and cast doubt on the credibility of Church institutions in Greece.
