Prince Leka Confesses: I have respect for Rama, and he for me. The opposition is at a critical stage, it must be patient

In an interview for Inside Albania with Alice Taylor, Prince Leka shared his personal and professional experiences, as well as projects for preserving the family's historical heritage and his experience at the Sandhurst Military Academy in the United Kingdom.

The prince shared details about his family, co-parenting his daughter and how he is preparing her to understand the potential responsibilities of a royal title as he confirmed his latest engagement and revealed that wedding plans are in the works, with the ceremony likely to take place this year. The prince also spoke about balancing family life and his role as a father, indicating that his daughter is gradually learning about the responsibilities and importance of the royal title, carefully preparing her for the future without depriving her of a normal childhood.

"Blerta and I are very happy. The engagement was fantastic, a dream on Sam's beach. After the engagement we will have the wedding, probably this year. I don't let my daughter go around saying 'I'm a princess'. The title comes with responsibility. It is a service to the nation and the people. She has to earn her name and position before she can use the title," he says.

During the interview, Prince Leka spoke about the family's collection of weapons and the history they hold, noting the importance of documenting and preserving heritage for future generations. He is working to build a museum in Bugayet that will showcase the history of Albanians in the diaspora and their sacrifices against communism. The prince also has a large library of 14-15 thousand books and other special collections, including weapons and historical objects, some of which he is trying to return to Albania from foreign owners.

"The collection is part of the law, and I am working with architects to build a museum in Bugayet. It will tell the history and sacrifices of Albanians in the diaspora against communism. I received a message from King Simeon of Bulgaria about a rifle that my grandfather gave him in Egypt. I am working with the Ministry of Interior to legally bring it here as part of the royal collection. I have one of the largest libraries in Albania, with 14-15 thousand books, and collections of weapons and historical objects. Some of them I am trying to restore for the Albanian public," says Prince Leka.

Regarding the relationship with the Prime Minister, Prince Leka underlined that his relationship with Edi Rama is formal and based on mutual respect.

"It's a formal relationship. We have mutual friends, but I know my limits. It's not a relationship where we just go for coffee, but there is mutual respect," he says.

He commented on the political situation in the country, highlighting the challenges of the opposition and the need to offer a real and sustainable alternative. The Prince also gave moral support to new leaders and new parties, describing them as “underdogs” who have the potential to bring change to society and politics.

"The opposition is at a critical stage, it must be patient and understand that after 2027 Albania will be in the spotlight with the NATO Summit. Big decisions need to be made, and a real alternative is needed for citizens," he concluded.
