Reuters for Zvërnec: Businessman who sold land to Kushner under investigation. Suspected of falsifying land deeds

Reuters has dedicated an article to the Special Prosecution's investigations into how property in Zvërnec was acquired, then sold to build a resort by companies linked to Jared Kushner.

Citing SPAK's investigative file, Reuters writes that the investigations raise suspicions that ownership of the lands was obtained through falsification of documents and that Albanian authorities are searching for businessman Artur Shehu.

“Shehu sold land on the pristine Albanian coast for the planned resort to Albania Land Development, which is owned by the Kushner-backed developers of the project, Sazan Real Estate Development, and other investors. SPAK documents say Shehu sold the land for the resort project for about 110 million euros, funds that are frozen in a notary’s account. “Shehu and associates purchased land using illegally obtained funds and falsified ownership documents, creating false title deeds or artificially inflating the size of the properties,” SPAK says in the filing.

However, the news agency adds that SPAK has no investigations into Kushner or other associates at this resort.

“The filings do not allege any wrongdoing by US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Kushner, Sazan Real Estate Development, Albania Land Development or other investors in the resort project. Reuters found no indication that any of the investors were aware of the suspicions against Shehu when they bought the land from him.”

Artur Shehu's lawyer, Kujtim Cakrani, denied, Reuters writes, SPAK's accusations, considering the investigations to be biased, as long as it was "widely believed" that Albanian prosecutors were acting under the influence of politicians and business figures.
