Activist Sidorela Vatnikaj read a statement at the protest, which, among other things, calls on the State Police to stop checking immigrants who are coming to Albania to be part of the nationwide protest called for tomorrow.

She has described such an action as police repression, while calling on the blues not to use violence and not to "allow" and tolerate infiltrators in the protest who could provoke violence.

"Concerned about detailed border checks for the diaspora coming to Tirana. Stop the violence and police repression."

We call on the State Police to distance themselves from any act of violence and tolerating infiltrators during tomorrow's protest. Your duty is to guarantee the safety of citizens, not to incite violence.

"We call on Albanian citizens who will join the protest tomorrow to protect its peaceful character," she said.

Vatnikaj's statement:

"Any attempt to intimidate through the use of force constitutes a violation of democracy and fundamental freedoms. We condemn the use of disproportionate force by the Police against protesters, violence, tear gas and the use of force against neutralized persons, which are in principle contrary to the standards of democracy. The Helsinki Committee has expressed concerns about the way the protest was managed, expressing concerns about the police force and international human rights standards. Acts of violence against citizens who protested peacefully cannot be used as a justification. We ask the State Police to provide an explanation for the excess of their powers and suspected cases of violence, and to hold every police officer who has violated the law and used violence accountable. The police cannot be used as an instrument to intimidate and exert pressure on citizens.

The violence in Zvërnec was not an isolated incident, it was repeated yesterday, where a large number of protesters were confronted with clear police violence, violating the fundamental right of protesters to protest peacefully. We demand the immediate release of the protesters, to condemn arbitrary actions that cannot be used as an instrument of intimidation, so we ask you: Free the boys!

We also express concern about the detailed checks at customs points for all Albanian citizens starting from yesterday, stop the violence and police repression. We call on the Police to distance themselves from any act of violence, infiltrators and provocations during the protest tomorrow, their duty is to ensure the smooth running of the protest and not to use force to hinder the protest. We call on all Albanian citizens who will participate tomorrow to protect the character of this peaceful protest. Provocations only serve those who want to keep the system intact. I invite all Albanian citizens wherever they are to participate tomorrow in the civic and peaceful protest, we want a new Albania and at the same time release our comrades", declared Vatnikaj.
