From the outside, it looked like a simple industrial warehouse in a small town on the outskirts of Italy.
But once you pass through the gate, you enter a world worthy of the movie " Narcos ": artificial lights, marijuana plants, packaging equipment, video surveillance and dark rooms .
That's what local police officers discovered on Monday afternoon while conducting a major anti-drug operation that led to the dismantling of a real drug factory.
Inside the approximately 1,000 square meter facility, officers discovered over 200 marijuana plants and 15 kilograms of drugs, including dried cannabis, already packaged and ready for sale.
The raid, launched at 1:30 p.m. with the support of 12 officers coordinated by Commander Costantino Gemelli, led to the arrest of two men: an Albanian and a Frenchman, both with previous convictions for drug trafficking.
Both were hidden under a "pocket" on the warehouse floor.
Once inside, law enforcement found a technological structure: five rooms dedicated to cultivation, sodium lighting, ventilation and air conditioning systems, drying rooms, precision scales, packaging equipment, and an active video surveillance system.
According to "Corriere della Sera", the value of the entire facility is around 300,000 euros, but investigators estimate that it could exceed 600,000 euros, taking into account the sophisticated equipment and construction costs.
The warehouse, rented for about a year and officially registered in the name of a woman resident in Montanaso Lombardo, came under the scrutiny of investigators.
During an initial inspection, officers detected a strong odor of cannabis coming from inside.
Then, observing them, they noticed a constant flow of people entering and leaving the building.
Investigators are trying to trace the financiers, instigators and distribution channels./ Corriere della Sera
