A building near the "Mother Teresa" hospital in Tirana caught fire yesterday, causing extensive material damage and injuring several firefighters and citizens who suffocated.
The General Director of the MSZH, Arben Cara, stated that another worrying problem in Tirana is the urban planning one, where according to him, many buildings are not accessible from both sides by firefighting vehicles in cases of emergency.
Invited to Top Story tonight, Cara said that the fire that 'devoured' the palace in the capital was well managed, leaving no victims behind.
"Ventilated facades are very dangerous because they are fed with oxygen. At a minimum, an object must be accessed from both sides by firefighters to obtain permission. I can say that this fire was managed very well, there were no victims. The fire was instantaneous.
The helicopter was very effective, because it helped lower temperatures and reduce the intensity of the fire. The main problem here arises that with the legalizations, there are many buildings that do not have a building permit, because they have affected the road standards, which does not allow the intervention of firefighters.
This is an urban planning problem. These issues are being addressed. The building in Tirana did not have an alarm system. Some tall buildings, the new ones, have an alarm system. An inspection should be carried out in the case of this building. The water system in this building existed", said Cara.
