The materials used for the construction and thermal insulation of buildings, according to experts, are the main causes of fire risk.

According to them, stricter control is needed regarding their use in construction.

"First, we need to establish certification, establish some standards where things are not left in the hands of the builder. The moment a material is put on the market, it must be well specified as to what it should be used for and what are the technical conditions for it to be placed or not in the building. Such material should not be used without criteria ," says construction engineer Erion Softa to Tv Klan.

Meeting emergency requirements is not a problem in most cases, as evacuation options exist in both new and old buildings.

But civil engineers say these measures need to be further supplemented.

"We also need to install fire sensors throughout the building. The moment we have a fire, the electrical system must react, as it can lead to loss of life. We must definitely have a notification to evacuate residents and these measures must be immediately included in the construction protocols ," Softa adds.

During the course of a year, approximately 200 cases of fire in residential buildings are recorded in the capital, and according to experts, underground garages are problematic.

On Tuesday, a building in the Pharmacy 10 area was engulfed in flames.

Eight people ended up in the hospital due to asphyxiation.
