The European Council today approved a assistance under the European Peace Mechanism worth 13 million euros to increase the operational effectiveness of the Albanian Armed Forces, especially in terms of mobility, manoeuvre and defence.
The assistance will also strengthen Albania's capacities in relation to its participation in the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) operations and missions, as well as in any international coalition.
"Albania is a reliable security partner and eu candidate country. Today's decision is an important milestone in our security and defense cooperation.
It also reflects our appreciation for Albania's full alignment with the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy, which is a very clear expression of Albania's strategic choice for a future within the EU, it said in a statement.
The decision is a concrete result of the increased engagement with Albania in the field of security and defence, reflecting Albania's full alignment with the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy.
The Albanian Land Force will receive light multifunctional armored vehicles. These vehicles are equipped to provide easy mobility and maneuverability in all types of terrain and weather conditions and to ensure personnel protection against light weapons and explosives.
