International media: Albania may face two arbitration lawsuits over Vlora

Albania faces the threat of two separate international arbitration processes over Vlora Airport.

According to the magazine 'Global Arbitration Review', Albania risks facing two separate arbitration claims related to Vlora International Airport.

One lawsuit involves MABCO Constructions, the Swiss company linked to businessman and former president of Kosovo, Behgjet Pacolli.

The company has announced the launch of an investment procedure against Albania within the framework of ICSID, the international mechanism for the settlement of investment disputes.

On the other side stands the airport concession company itself, which is considering a separate procedure at the LCIA, the international arbitration based in London.

This means that the same project could end up in two different international legal battles.

At the center of the conflict is the decision of the Albanian authorities to undertake procedures to terminate the concession contract.

Pacolli stated that MABCO was financially exposed to more than 320 million euros and that, according to her, institutional obstacles and conflict between partners have made the normal completion of the project impossible.

The company also claims that it was prevented from entering the site and continuing the work.
