The Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, has promoted the former head of the Roskovec Police Station, Mariglen Koroveshaj, to the rank of "Chief Commissioner" for his role in rescuing 24-year-old Rozalinda Plaku, who was held hostage by her ex-partner Refit Buzi after he killed her parents Kosta and Belere Plaku.

During a meeting with leaders and officers of the Fier Local Police Directorate, Hita said that Koroveshaj showed professionalism and courage in one of the most serious criminal events of recent months.

The incident took place on July 24 in the village of Vidishte, Roskovec, where 35-year-old Refit Buzi shot and killed the parents of his ex-partner, Kosta and Belere Plaka. He then took 24-year-old Rozalinda Plaka hostage and fled in a vehicle. After about two hours of negotiations, Mariglen Koroveshaj managed to convince the perpetrator to release the young woman, while a little later Buzi killed himself.

"I made this decision without any hesitation, because Marigleni also acted without hesitation to save the life of a girl, who was taken hostage by her ex-boyfriend, after he had previously killed her parents. In one of the most difficult situations a police officer can face, he showed professionalism, courage and high responsibility. He chose communication and negotiation, managed to establish contact with the perpetrator, manage the situation and, above all, enable the girl's rescue," said Hita.

Starting today, Koroveshaj will take on a new position within the structures of the Berat Local Police Directorate.

The General Director also praised the work of the Police officers in capturing the perpetrator of the murder of the 20-year-old Portuguese man in Ksamil, who was arrested while hiding in the trunk of a vehicle, as well as for arresting the perpetrator of the murder of the mother and the injury of the father in Lushnje.

"In both cases, the result was the product of teamwork, coordination and professionalism of the Police officers, especially the officers of the "Eagle" Special Force. Let these reactions serve as a model for how Police officers should act every day, who should always be where citizens need them most. This is our mission and I am determined to appreciate every police officer who goes above and beyond the call of duty to protect the lives and property of citizens", stressed Hita.

As a sign of appreciation, upon the proposal of the Fier Local Police Director, the officers engaged in these operations will be rewarded with a monthly salary.
