Precious stones extracted from Mirdita's galleries: Are foreign companies
Precious stones extracted from the galleries of Mirdita

The company that owns the Spaç mine has exploitation permits in several areas of Mirdita: Gurth 1, Gurth 2, Gurth 3, Gurth 4, in Perlat in the southern area. All of these are specified in the QKB by the company itself.

A change in the company's scope of activity is noted in 2017, where it has added gold exploration. A change which is reflected in the relevant data but on the other hand raises questions since the company's activity is related to copper and chromium as observed in the accessible data.

If we go back in time to see the data of the mining areas of Albania and the elements that were extracted from the underground, we see that there are several mines where gold was extracted and one of them is Spaçi. Also called the gold mine according to the testimonies given by miners who worked in these galleries during the communist period. Here, suspicions arise about the extortion of gold without any reward for the Albanian state.

"I worked in the mine for 21 years from 79 to 95, and I received a small pension at that time. Political prisoners with two universities said that in America it is called a gold mine, they told Spaç because of the percentage that came out of gold. A small percentage, but it was pure gold, so it was a gold mine," said former miner Gjon Pjetri.

Engineers also provide data that speaks of many important elements extracted from the Spaç mine that would be a great asset for Albania if they were used properly. The rare elements found there are important in industry but also costly.

"The exported spaci, directly with 2.5% copper directly in export as a mineral. In the specific case of the stone, with a reserve of 1 million and 150 thousand tons of contoured reserves, after a 2011 balance with a gold content of 1.15% gold, this is sold", said geologist Qerim Ismeni.

No one has a clear report on what is extracted from Spaçi and whether this company, which is making a loss in Albania, can make a lot of profit outside the borders of the Albanian territory precisely because of these rare elements, including gold.

"There are engineers and geologists who know the sector very well, who have worked in the sector and who know very well what the copper ore extracted in Spaç or in other sources in Albania contains, they know very well, in percentage terms, what is gold, what is copper and what is another mineral. Is this the element that justifies the loss in this case of Tete Albania, is this the element that, if it is not declared here but is obtained over there when it goes to be processed, it does not result in a loss for me, no, it is an integral part of this activity that takes place here in Albania", said the MP, Erion Braçe

A historical data analysis shows that gold in Spaç was extracted with a content of 1.15%, but silver and a number of other rare and important elements in the mining industry were also extracted. Were these elements also taken into account in the balance sheets and in the concession contract?

"No one guarantees me or anyone else that the value of this 1 gram of gold is taken into account in calculating the export price and as an enterprise it could end up with a loss. This mineral with 2.5% copper and 1.15 gold, so it goes into direct sale if it were processed in Albania, the concentrate would be obtained, bright copper would be produced, gold and silver would be obtained from bright copper, etc. etc. ", said geologist Qerim Ismeni.

The precious stones that are extracted from the galleries of Mirdita, Albania gains nothing!

We are located in the village of Letitna in Mirdita. In this underground gallery, Gurth 1 and Gurth 3 are divided where copper exploration is carried out. Inside Story has provided material taken from the Gurth 3 galleries, which at first glance show that their values are great. The yellow color that shines in the sun strengthens its connection with gold. While the other stone shows that it contains a lot of zinc.

In the underground galleries of Spaç, where the light of the lamp touches the wet surface of the rock, minerals begin to tell their story. The two stones we see are secret maps, traces of the deep geological process that creates precious metals, including gold.

With a surface that flashes hues of gold, purple, and blue, it is a dominant mixture of pyrite and chalcopyrite. The strong luster of gold indicates pure pyrite crystallization, precisely the crystal structures where geologists know that the finest traces of gold can be housed. The streaks that shimmer in the blue-violet color indicate the surface oxidation of chalcopyrite, a mineral that in many sulfur deposits, including Spaç, serves as a “transporter” for gold at microscopic levels. Even those deep blue areas, where bornite flashes its oily glow, are signs that this mass was formed under hot conditions, where heavy and precious metals move together.

In this stone with a metallic-gray body and broad blue-violet veins, pyrite occurs in a compact mass. This constitutes a structure known to geologists as a zone where gold tends to be incorporated within the crystal lattice itself, invisible to the human eye. Thick lines of oxidized chalcopyrite interrupt the gray mass and give exactly the kind of texture often seen in the most mineralized areas, where precious metals are most likely to have been deposited. Even the yellow metallic spot in the corner, a solid spot of dark gold, indicates a zone of late crystallization, where metals may have been concentrated.

In these two stones, gold does not appear as crumbs, it does not shine on the surface. It remains hidden, tightly bound within pyrite and chalcopyrite, part of the history of their creation. In sources like Spaçi, gold is not found as a visible treasure, it is an internal secret of the mineral, a trace that is discovered only when the sulfuric mass is studied, processed or analyzed.

This is another video that was made inside the galleries. Again the same color dominates. Every stone, regardless of its size, the colors and nuances indicate rare minerals. Of course, their value cannot be determined with the naked eye alone, but if institutions were to analyze the raw material that comes out of the ground before it is exported, they could easily determine the elements that the copper contains.

The videos you are watching on the screen are the reality of the underground in Spaç, Letitna and Gurth. All these galleries are exploited by the same company "Tete Albania". Spaç is on the border with Munella, so it is the same rock massif that is exploited. In the past, pure gold was extracted in these areas, but what happens today?
