A major anti-drug operation carried out in the early hours of this Wednesday morning in the provinces of Florence and Siena has led to the arrest of nine people, suspected of being members of an Italian-Albanian criminal organization engaged in narcotics trafficking.
The investigations began two years ago.
As La Nazione writes, the investigations, launched in 2023 after the seizure of 20 kilograms of cocaine in San Gimignano, uncovered a new criminal network based in Tuscany and with supply channels in Lombardy. The group is suspected to be headed by two Albanian citizens, who determined the strategies, supplies and distribution of the drugs.
The gang's couriers, who turned out to be officially employed as transport drivers, used fake packages to hide cocaine, hashish and marijuana, imitating the deliveries of an international transport company.
During the investigation, a total of 17 kilograms of cocaine, 18 kilograms of hashish and one kilogram of marijuana were seized. Three people had previously been arrested in flagrante delicto, and now new security measures have been imposed on them.
The court has ordered eight prison security measures and one house arrest, while the charges include participation in a criminal organization and illegal drug trafficking. Authorities are conducting further checks to uncover additional evidence and the benefits of drug trafficking.
