Ecuador's Interior Minister announced the arrest of a foreign businessman in the country on suspicion of being linked to the Albanian mafia.

Italian businessman Panfilo C, also known as Benny Colonico , is also known as the 'ATM' of the Albanian mafia, as he helps it launder large amounts of money.

This time, during a search of his apartment, a large amount of counterfeit money was found.

Interior Minister John Reimberg said the businessman has been placed under arrest pending trial.

Benny Colonico is a controversial figure in Ecuador. In June 2023, he was kidnapped from a restaurant he owned in the city of Guayaquil.

During the operation to free him, one of the criminals was killed.

Meanwhile, earlier, in January 2023, he was involved in a shootout in front of a shopping mall.

The businessman has also been rumored to be in a relationship with television presenter  Carolina Jaume .

There were even accusations that he had stalked her.

The arrest of the Italian businessman is considered very important for understanding how the Albanian mafia, which traffics tons of cocaine from Ecuador to Europe, operates.
