3 investigations have been launched by the authorities in Britain after the death of a 37-year-old Albanian man in a center for immigrants.

The Guardian writes that the Albanian, Alfred Dosku , who died on Friday, had attempted suicide only a week earlier at the Brook House immigration center , located near Gatwick airport.

As a result, he was taken to East Surrey Hospital and placed in intensive care.

On Saturday morning, the Home Office confirmed his death, the police, the coroner and the ombudsman have launched investigations.

Meanwhile, immediately after the suicide attempt by the Albanian, in Brook House, a center for which there is a public investigation, a protest was organized mainly by the Albanians who are there. The suicide attempt was the second, writes The Guardian. Earlier, another Albanian had also attempted suicide.

The latter was deported immediately afterwards, but returned to Britain again after a legal battle by his lawyer, who appealed the deportation order. The Home Office brought him back to Britain, again to Brook House, after agreeing to delay his departure.

According to a report compiled by the psychologist, which British media say they have read, the Home Office was required to carry out a full clinical assessment of the Albanian's case before proceeding with his deportation.

"If this is not done, there is a risk that irreparable damage will be caused to the person in question for his psychological and physical well-being", the report said.

One of the Albanians who was part of the protest said that his two compatriots had attempted suicide because they feared for their safety, due to the inevitable decision to return them to Albania.

"One of them told me that it would be better to die in Britain than to return to Albania. We are not treated well in the center. We are not animals, we are human beings," he told The Guardian.

The Home Office often cites what it describes as 'a historic joint agreement' with Albania, signed on 13 December 2022, to speed up the return of all illegal Albanians to their homeland.

However, The Guardian writes that lawyers and human rights activists have warned that many of the Albanians who seek asylum in the United Kingdom, for reasons such as trafficking or blood feud, are at risk if they are forcibly returned to their homeland.

In a reaction to the Albanian's death, a Home Office spokesperson said: " Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends. The well-being of those in our care is of the utmost importance. Every death in migrant centers is a tragic event and will be investigated by the police, the coroner and the independent lawyer ."
