A year after publicly resigning as chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha turns out to still be legally in charge of this political force.

Alibeaj's group has today submitted a request to the CEC to register the DP for the May 14 elections, and part of the file has included a letter from Lulzim Basha that, in the capacity of DP chairman, authorizes the vice-president Enkelejd Alibeaj and the general secretary, Gazmend White to represent this political force.

" I, Lulzim Basha, with the function of chairman of the Democratic Party, in connection with the local elections of 2023, according to the date set by the Decree of the President of the Republic, in fulfillment of the powers of the chairman of the Party, authorize their exercise by the deputy chairman of the Party Enkelejd Alibeaj and /or the General Secretary Gazmend Bardhi and/or the Secretary for legal and electoral issues Indrit Sefa... ", says the letter that was sent to the CEC.

The legal direction of the DP by Lulzim Basha is also proven by a Tirana Court on March 1, 2023, which confirmed that he is the chairman of the DP.

Alibeaj's group submitted today to the CEC a request to register the Democratic Party in the May 14 local elections.

Indrit Sefa, the lawyer of the Alibeaj group who has defended this party in court on the issue of the seal, told the media that in his capacity as the legal representative of the Democratic Party, he recorded the request for the local election.

"The Central Election Commission will evaluate it. I don't understand all this great interest. We did a purely procedural action. It is a practice followed by all political parties", said Sefa.
