"Black days" for the Western Balkans? Here's how the analyst
NATO Army / Aleksandar Vucic

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, surprised quite a few citizens when he released a coded message in the late hours after midnight.

Vucic said he had received bad news for Serbia with developments that directly threaten vital national interests.

"At this moment, it is not easy to say what kind of news we have received in the last 48 hours...developments that directly threaten the vital national interests of Serbia and Republika Srpska," wrote Vucic, among other things.

Many who know him, especially Serbs, were not surprised by his message, saying that Vučić often uses this language to spread fear in order to divert attention from the major problems facing Serbia.

However, Vučić's message quickly spread even among those who are called "warmongers", implying that he was warning of a new conflict in the Balkans.

But analyst and monitor of developments in the Western Balkans, Ivana Stradner explains what Vučić might be referring to with his message.

Here's how she explains it in a post on social networks:

Yesterday, the Serbian president said that the vital national interests of Serbia and Republika Srpska are under threat. He said that Serbia will fight and win.

His message went viral and many people were scared thinking it was a provocation of war.

What's going on there?

However, there are some theories floating around especially in Russia and Serbia. Moscow often uses such situations to convey information to cause more chaos.

Here's what they say:

1. The media of the Ministry of Defense of Russia published interviews with two experts. One claims that Vucic's alarming statement is due to Kosovo's decision to change its currency. Another expert echoed the Kosovo crisis and said "When they want to put pressure on Belgrade, they use Kosovo."

2. The most common theory circulating is that Vucic's statement is related to the decision of the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, to change the electoral law.

3. According to the former head of Serbia, another theory is that in April the UN plans to discuss the resolution on the genocide in Bosnia, which is the "finalization of the conspiracy against the Serbs".

4. Telegram channel Rybar says, in the next 48 hours, the UN may initiate the genocide resolution. He also says that Vucic's warning is due to Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe. He also foresees another escalation "sooner or later".

5. Tass also echoes this feeling that Vucic's alarming message is because of Kosovo.

6. Of course, Russia never misses an opportunity to add more fuel to the fire. They claim that American planes are flying over Bosnia and Herzegovina and spying.

7. Of course, there are conspiracy theories about the assassination of Millard Dodik, the Serbian leader of Republika Srpska, who has been threatened with secession.

8.Also, Aleksandar Vulin, the former spy chief who has very close ties to Russia, suggests that the West wants to arrest Milorad Dodik.

9. For me, the most interesting thing will be May 5 when Dodik and Vucic will prepare an event to officially declare the Serbian World (where all Serbs must live under the same cultural framework. Known as "Greater Serbia". This will be like Milosevic's speech in 1989.
