March 8, International Women's Day

March 8 is International Women's Day and commemorates the movement for their rights.

The idea for "International Women's Day" was first thrown at the beginning of the 19th century, which was a period of turmoil and population growth for the industrialized world.

In different countries this day is celebrated as a national holiday. This day serves not only to unite women regardless of religion, race, culture, language and origin, but also to remember the efforts for equality, peace, justice and construction in almost 9 decades.

But the reason why exactly March 8 is celebrated is related to two historical events.

The first dates back to 1911. In March of that year, a group of women workers in a textile industry in New York went on strike for days against the terrible conditions in which they were working.

To suppress the protest, the owners of the company had blocked the exits of the factory, not allowing the workers to leave.

Suddenly, something went wrong and a fire broke out that killed over 140 female workers. Among these women there were many immigrants who were only looking for better living conditions.

The second historical event also shows women's commitment to their rights and freedom and is related to the February Revolution in Russia, during the First World War.

On March 8, 1917, in addition to all the men in revolt, many Russian women workers took to the streets to protest against the tsar, and therefore this date is remembered as decisive for the history of the female gender.

Since that day, "International Women's Day" took on other dimensions, and began to be celebrated around the world. On this day, we reflect on the courage and actions of ordinary women who played an important role in the history of women's rights.

On March 8, 1910, in the USA, Canada and other countries of the world, there were large protests for women's rights, and on that day, the rights of women and men are equal.
