A scandal related to sports betting and rigged matches is being investigated by prosecutors in Turkey .

Prosecutors are investigating a structured criminal group accused of money laundering, illegal betting and match-fixing in several Balkan clubs as well as in Georgia .

Famous names in Turkey such as singer Serdat Ortac , presenter M ehmet Ali Erbil and ex-football player Batuhan Karadeniz are also involved in this scandal .

Ortac and Erbil are being investigated at large, while Karadeniz is said to have fled the country.

How did the scheme work?

Through VIPs, the criminal organization advertised illegal betting sites, allowing many citizens to gamble online.

VIPs advertised illegal companies on their social networks, attracting as many customers as possible.

For this advertisement they were paid up to 1 million dollars for a certain number of posts about them.

It is suspected that money illegally obtained by criminal groups was re-marketed and laundered by VIPs, although their role remains under investigation.

It is expected that in the following days more details will emerge about these groups and how they organized illegal betting or how far their influence has extended in Turkey and other Balkan countries.

The inclusion of Albanian and Balkan clubs in betting

Clubs from Albania, North Macedonia and Georgia are also included in the betting scheme .

The criminal organization managed to buy teams in Albania and rig matches so that they won as much as possible and the bettors always lost.
