Guardiola's unusual request to not appear in Mourinho documentary revealed

The director of the Jose Mourinho documentary has revealed why Pep Guardiola did not appear in the Netflix documentary.

'Mourinho,' a three-part documentary about the legendary Portuguese coach, was released on Netflix on Tuesday and documents the ups and downs of one of football's greats.

The documentary about the former Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid manager was filmed over two years and offers unprecedented access to Mourinho.

Additionally, the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Eden Hazard, John Terry, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, André Villas-Boas, Claude Makelele, Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Javier Zanetti, Luis Figo, Marcelo, Marco Materazzi, Massimo Moratti, Petr Cech, Peter Kenyon, Ricardo Carvalho, Sami Khedira and Samuel Eto'o all appear in new and candid interviews.

Despite a very public row after Mourinho suspected he had leaked information to the media, former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas is also an interviewee.

But there was no involvement from Guardiola, Mourinho's greatest rival, who faced him in El Clasico with Barcelona and Real Madrid.

However, it wasn't for lack of trying, with director Joel Pearlman revealing that the production team contacted the Catalan and he was happy to take part in an interview - provided Mourinho asked him directly.

Speaking to Football Ramble, Pearlman said: "We tried to get Pep Guardiola. We approached him and he said: 'Absolutely I'll do it, but only if Jose asks me the questions.' So you can imagine how that went.

"And that says it all for both characters. It wasn't going to happen."
