Zlatan Ibrahimovic sent a direct message to the Argentina national team, stating that Lionel Messi cannot continue to carry the team alone, despite his performances so far in the World Cup.

The Inter Miami star was at his best in Argentina's dramatic 3-2 win over Egypt, but Ibrahimovic believes Messi's teammates need to give more to ease the burden on their captain.

Messi once again proved why he is considered the best of all time, leading Argentina to a spectacular upset over Egypt in the round of 16 of the World Cup.

After Argentina were 2-0 down in Atlanta, Messi began the comeback by assisting Cristian Romero's goal, before scoring the equalizer himself. He then set up Enzo Fernandez's winning goal in extra time.

This performance left Ibrahimovic amazed, who once again praised the extraordinary mentality of his former Barcelona teammate.

Speaking to Fox Sports, the Swede said that a big change was seen in Messi when Argentina risked elimination.

"You could see something changed. He turned on another gear (after the 2-0 score). He turned into a beast and no one could stop him."

"You can see how much this means to him. He may have won everything, every time he has won the Ballon d'Or, but he still wants more."

However, beyond the celebrations after the final whistle, where an emotional Messi was hugged by his teammates, Ibrahimovic also had criticism for the rest of the Argentine squad.

"To be a little critical, his teammates need to step up more and help him. He's on another level."

"If Messi continues like this until the end, no one will be surprised. But he needs help," the Swede concluded.
