A not-so-nice surprise/ Brazil's plane returns to Rio after World Cup failure, but only Danilo was on board

The Brazilian national team's plane departed New Jersey, where the team was based during the World Cup, on Tuesday for Rio de Janeiro. The disappointment after the yellow-blues' elimination in the round of 16 by Norway is great. But the biggest surprise, after the plane landed, was that there was only one player on board: Danilo. The former Juventus player was seen leaving the airport alone and did not say a word. The rest of the team, including coach Carlo Ancelotti, had taken other directions.

According to Brazilian media, Danilo returned with the rest of the delegation, which included masseurs, technical staff, doctors and communications personnel, but without any of his teammates. The main reason for this unusual situation is related to the players' commitments. Those playing for European clubs, after the elimination, were allowed to go to their holiday destinations before joining the teams for the preparatory phase. While Ancelotti chose Vancouver, Canada, to rest for a few days and regain energy ahead of the September commitments.

A situation that certainly did not please the Brazilian people, who would have preferred to see all the players return home together. The sight of a single player in Rio after the failure at the World Cup is not at all pretty. On board, in addition to members of the technical staff and support personnel, Danilo was accompanied by goalkeeper Leo Nannetti, who had not been selected for the World Cup, but had participated in goalkeeper training.

Danilo's appearance as the only player on the official flight has drawn attention in Brazil and symbolizes the sudden end of a World Cup that ended too early for one of the favorites to triumph. Some expected that the example of returning to Brazil, in addition to Danilo, would be given by more experienced players such as Alisson, Marquinhos, Casemiro or Neymar. But all chose to start their holidays, to leave behind the disappointment and to prepare for the new season with the clubs, leaving the fans, as always, the bitterness of an elimination that came too soon.
